In aerial refueling telescopic tubes, the gas-liquid slip ring is a rotary joint that integrates the fuel and hydraulic drive channels. It features a precise internal rotary sealing interface. This is the most important functional integration.
In the fuel transfer system, the main channel is the high-pressure fuel from the fuel pump of the refueling machine, which passes through the central fuel channel of the gas-liquid slip ring. Dynamic sealing is also achieved. For example, during the transfer process, the main rotary seal inside the slip ring prevents fuel leakage when the slip ring and telescopic tube rotate relative to each other.
The second component is the hydraulic drive and control system. The actuation channel in the hydraulic drive refers to the hydraulic actuator that controls the extension and retraction of the telescopic tube. Its pressure oil circuit also passes through the annular hydraulic channel of the gas-liquid slip ring (but is physically isolated from the fuel channel). The control and sensing components of the control system are the contact sensors installed on the probe head. When the receiving aircraft's plug is mated and a predetermined force is reached, a signal is transmitted back through a dedicated circuit within the slip ring (or using non-contact sensing), causing the system to lock the telescopic mechanism, creating a stable and rigid connection.
Pressure compensation and sealing are ensured during operation. The system is typically equipped with a pressure compensation system. This system applies fuel pressure (or independent pressurized gas) slightly higher than the ambient pressure to the back of the slip ring seal, maintaining constant pressure on the rotating sealing surface. This serves a dual purpose: first, it strengthens the dynamic seal to prevent fuel leakage; second, it effectively isolates the intrusion of external contaminants (such as seawater mist), significantly extending the service life and reliability of the slip ring in harsh environments.
As the core hub, the gas-liquid slip ring realizes the seamless coordination of the three major functions of fuel transmission, hydraulic drive and signal control under dynamic connection in three-dimensional space. Its built-in pressurization compensation mechanism is a key design to ensure the high reliability and long life of the system.
